PVCC Staff Bios:
Bill and Radine Herrick - Family Camp
Bill and Radine reside in Everett, WA and both enjoy camping, mostly at PVCC! Radine works at Puget Sound Christian College as the Financial Aid director, and Bill is a commercial finish carpenter, working mostly in chain grocery stores. Both are members at Northwest Church in Shoreline, WA where Bill also serves as an elder. Bill and Radine both serve on the board of trustees for the camp and have served in many leadership function with the Family Camp ministry.
Chad Schnathorst- Jr. High Camp Director
Chad was in his mid-to-late twenties when the idea of being a Youth Pastor was purposed to him. "At that time I was a lay youth person, and I was encouraged by the Youth Pastor I was working under at that time to 'give it a shot'. It took quite a few years to get here, but that's all history now!"
Chad has an AA from South Seattle Community College and a BA from Puget Sound Christian College.
Most of Chad's free time for the last decade has been spent in youth ministry or youth programs. In the past few years he has been attending school full time in order that he may be able to dedicate his life to ministering to young people. "I believe that the Lord has called me to this work, and so far He has blessed me immensely!" Chad began work at Highline in December of 2002.
"I first attended Pleasant Valley Christian Camp in the summer of 1978, as a junior camper. Since that time Ive been involved with the camp in a number of ways, (camper, counselor, camp director, retreat director, etc.) I have many fond memories that have taken place up at Pleasant Valley, and its been fun helping to make many great memories for other too! The camp has always been a place to "unplug," from our busy lives, and focus on our relationship with God, and our relationships with others too! Pleasant Valley has always done this well, and I look forward to being apart of a similar, but unique experience this year also. Whether you new to Pleasant Valley, or have been with us in the past, I hope you can join us this camping season!"
Bret Thorson - Junior Camp Director
Bret says, "Looking back, I can see where God was shaping me for ministry from a very young age. As a child I wanted to be a teacher and that desire has never left me. In the spring of 1994 I felt God calling me to full-time ministry with children. It was a very fast transition from a public school education to ministry, and God has been faithful every step of the way."
Bret graduated from Highline Community College in 1994 with his Associates of Arts, with an emphasis in education. In 1997 he graduated from Puget Sound Christian College with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Christian Education/Youth Ministry.
Its a joy to be able to serve as a director with the team of childrens ministers I have had the privilege to serve with over the last eighteen years. Camp is a great place where we are able to remove kids from the influence of the world and have everything we do focus on leading the kids to know Jesus more. Its amazing what God can do in the lives of the kids and the staff alike in a week concentrated to Him. One of the most rewarding parts about camp for me is to see the fruit of what God has done. As a directing team we have had the privilege to see children make first time decisions for Jesus, and have those same kids come back as counselors-in-training, then become counselors, and many enter full-time ministry. The cycle of discipleship is a beautiful thing and camp is a great place to foster it. I look forward to serving with you at camp.
Preston Seal and Marita Lawrence - First Junior Camp
Preston Seal and Marita Lawrence have been friends for five years and met when they were both serving at PVCC at Junior Camp. Both have attended PVCC as campers (way back when) and have served for numerous years as adult leaders at PVCC Junior Camp. Preston works as an oral postural therapist full time and also works as a childrens ministry director at Renovo Church in Puyallup, WA. Marita works as a instructor at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, WA and attends Believers Fellowship Christian Church in Gig Harbor, WA.
Dave Horton
My name is Dave Horton and I am the Youth Pastor at First Christian Church in Port Orchard, WA. I have been here for nearly 9 years. My wife Jamie and I have 3 children Natalie, Ella and Jack. They have all loved going to camp each summer as the kids have been blessed to be able to travel with their dad for his summer job which includes being involved in camps. Our oldest will be going to her first year of camp as a camper this summer. She can't wait.
My educational background involves attending Puget Sound Christian College (Edmonds campus). I graduated with a degree in Bible, with minors in Social science and Youth Ministry. Memories from college will last a lifetime specially since I met my wife there. It was through PSCC that I got my first chance to attend a weeklong camp. It just so happened that it was at PVCC. I never had an opportunity to go to camp as a youngster because my church wasn't really associated with one. I loved camp from the moment I spent my first week there. Getting students away from their homes and their home towns they become so open and relaxed that you can get to know these students and be a part of their lives and really see what makes them tick. It is awesome seeing changes in some of the campers when they check in on Sunday and when they leave Saturday. Some of them leave in a whole new light. When I say "light" I mean they met a guy named Jesus during the week. How awesome is that?
